The hilly city of Sukkur extends from Lansdowne Bridge to Lloyd’s Barrage along the bank of River Indus. Sukkur occupies a vital position as being the historic city of Sindh. Historically centuries ago Muhammad Bin Qasim entered Sindh at Arrore near Sukkur. The Population of upper Sindh has been growing rapidly in the recent times and the need for Medical Education and services in Health sector has been increasing. The idea and the place of Sukkur as the central point for establishment of Medical College and tertiary care Hospital was gaining grounds in the heart and minds of decision makers and people at large.
Finally, in the morning of 2nd September, 2003 the foundation stone of Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College (GMMMC) Sukkur was laid down.
Every year 100 students belonging to District Sukkur, Ghotki and Khairpur Mir’s are admitted in this College.
Although youngest of Public Sector Medical Colleges, yet it is not behind any of them in academics. Clinical sciences facility is especially very strong and almost complete with Professors and Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Senior Registrars in almost all departments. The brilliance is shown by students acquiring good marks and snatching top positions in University.
Keeping in view the hot climate of the northern part of Sindh, the academic building like the Lecture hall, Dissection hall, Demonstration Rooms, Seminar Rooms, Laboratories, Libraries and offices of Faculty members are air-conditioned. Modern way of teaching has been adopted at this Medical College with the latest Audio Visual teaching aids.
I congratulate all the students who will get admission in this prestigious medical of Sindh and their parents for they shall be witnessing a day, their dreams come true.
